The subjects in the study were conditionally healthy volunteers who took part in the experiment «Evaluation of the effectiveness of a dietary supplement based on a probiotic on the state of natural colonization barriers and the bone status of humans in everyday life» (code: «Probiotic»).
The main purpose of the «Probiotic» experiment was to assess the effectiveness of nutritional supplements on the state of the natural barriers of colonization, species composition of the gastrointestinal tract microflora, bone status and dynamics of bone metabolism markers in volunteers under conditions of daily activities.
The tasks set in the «Probiotic» experiment were fully completed. During the implementation of the experiment, data were obtained on the dynamics of bone mineral density and the concentration of hormones and markers of bone metabolism in the blood serum, as well as the dynamics of parameters characterizing the composition of biotopes, changes in the gastrointestinal tract.
As a result of the study, data were obtained confirming the positive effect of this fermentation drink on the human body. Moreover there were positive dynamics of density in the lumbar vertebrae L1-L4 in five participants out of ten, which indicates the activation of the remodeling processes. Though results over three months are encouraging this period is too short for fully evaluating the effect of a food supplement on bone density: possibly results could further improve over a longer period of time.
According to the results obtained, before taking the probiotic drink, the species composition of the vaginal microflora corresponded to the age category of volunteers (postmenopausal period) and was characterized by a reduced content of Lactobacillus spp and a complete absence of Bifidobacterium spp.
After taking the probiotic drink, 5 out of 8 women showed a decrease in the leukocyte reaction, which indicates a decrease in inflammatory processes in the vagina. Also, in 3 test subjects who had Gardnerella vaginalis in the control smear, it did not have it at the end of the experiment. After taking a probiotic drink, 6 out of 8 women showed a decrease in the potentially pathogenic microflora of the vagina and cervical chanal.
